A clear route from question to working insight

A four-stage delivery method with no leap of faith

Analytics projects can lose direction in the first month when nobody agrees what success means. S.W.P. Cognition starts with the decision, checks the data, then proves the idea before a production build.

The route is simple: discovery and data audit, prioritised prototype, production implementation, then training and ongoing support.

Start with a defined question. Build only when the evidence supports it.

Time bands are indicative, not promises. Data access, security review and system complexity shape the final plan.

Stage one

Discovery and data audit

We begin with the business decision that needs to improve. Then we check whether the available data can support it.

No build commitment comes before the findings are written down.

What you receive

A shared summary of data sources, quality concerns, access constraints, risks, quick wins and a recommended starting point.

fact_check What we do

  • check_circleAgree the decision, its owner and how a useful result will be judged.
  • check_circleInventory reporting tools, source systems and current KPI definitions.
  • check_circleReview data coverage, quality, access and known gaps.
  • check_circleSeparate quick wins from issues that need a wider fix.

input What we need from you

  • check_circleOne or two recent reports that people rely on today.
  • check_circleA list of relevant systems and a contact for each, where possible.
  • check_circleShort conversations with the decision owner and report users.
  • check_circleKnown security, privacy or change-control requirements.

Stage two

A prioritised prototype, built to be challenged

We build the smallest useful dashboard or model against real data. Users can test the KPIs, labels and layout before anyone commits to a larger implementation.

That is where weak assumptions show up.

rule

Confirm KPI definitions with the people who use the numbers.

sync_alt

Check integration, refresh frequency and access rules early.

Illustrative layout only. Measures and data are agreed with your team.

  1. 1Read the trend in context.
  2. 2Challenge each measure.
  3. 3Decide what belongs in production.

The prototype also tests whether the question is answerable with the data available. If it is not, we adjust the scope or stop before production costs begin.

Stage three

Production implementation with checks at every handover

Once the prototype answers the right question, we make the data flow dependable and set clear rules for who sees what.

Numbers must reconcile before go-live.

hub

Integration and refresh

Connect the agreed data sources. Set a refresh schedule, handle failed runs and record whether the latest update completed.

Checks we run
Test credentials and source access, confirm refresh timing, check expected row counts and flag failed or late loads for review.
admin_panel_settings

Access and governance

Apply role-based access so sensitive information is available only to the right people. Document the permissions agreed with you.

Checks we run
Review user roles, test access with representative accounts and confirm that restricted views stay restricted.
verified

Validation and go-live

Reconcile results against trusted reports, document calculation logic and agree a go-live point with a rollback plan for the first reporting cycle.

Checks we run
Trace key calculations, compare agreed totals, record known differences and confirm who reviews the first live refresh.

Stage four

Training, adoption and ongoing support

People need time to use a new view in real work. We tailor training by user group, then review what happened after the first reporting cycle.

The team should be able to run it.

  • check_circlePractical sessions for the people who read, manage or maintain the analytics.
  • check_circleShort reference notes explaining each view, measure and route for questions.
  • check_circleAn adoption review to refine useful measures and retire views nobody needs.

A regular check-in to review measures, data quality and planned changes.

Model review and improvement

For predictive work, review model performance at an agreed cadence, check for changes in the underlying data and plan updates where the evidence calls for them.

Engagement options and what we need from you

The first scope should fit the decision in front of you. It does not need to cover every report or system.

Keep the first step focused.

filter_1

Focused engagement

One dashboard or model tied to a single high-value decision. A practical fit when you need to prove one use case before expanding.

account_tree

Programme engagement

Several reporting areas delivered in sequence against a shared roadmap, with priorities and dependencies made visible.

support_agent

Advisory engagement

Periodic strategy, KPI review or model assurance for teams that already manage their own analytics work.

Useful client inputs

  • personA decision owner who can set priorities and resolve questions.
  • databaseAccess to relevant data, or representative extracts for an early prototype.
  • scheduleTime for users to review measures and respond to working versions.

Integration points to settle early

  • securitySystem permissions, security review and any privacy requirements.
  • syncRefresh cadence, source ownership and how late or failed updates are handled.
  • published_with_changesChange-control steps, test environments and approval for go-live.

Start with a useful conversation

Arrange a consultation to scope your first stage

Bring the decision you want to improve, your current reporting tools and any known data constraints. We can agree whether a discovery and data audit is the right first step.
